Community Health Programs
Through our community and health partnerships, The Maria Seymour Brooker Memorial is able to provide residents in Litchfield county access to programs and medical professionals for a variety of wellness and health services.
Infant Massage Therapy is our newest Community Health Program. Classes are now forming for March, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Please contact licensed massage therapist Sandra Ransom for details and to sign up! 860-480-8253. The benefits of infant massage include reducing stress for baby and parent, increasing bonding for new dads, , improving baby's sleep patterns, weight gain, respiration and sensory awareness. Siblings are encouraged to participate to learn "good touch" for infants.
Blood Pressure Screening Clinics conducted by staff of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital are offered each Tuesday from 9 am - 11 am at Brooker Memorial. This service is free and no appointment is necessary. Just stop in during scheduled hours any Tuesday!
Greenwoods Counseling and Referrals, Inc. provides free clinical assessments for Litchfield County adults at Brooker Memorial. Individuals are referred to high-quality and affordable mental health care and related services. Greenwoods has had a goal of creating a satellite office in Torrington for several years, as transportation to their Litchfield office is problematic for many area individuals and families. Anyone wishing counseling services or assessments in mental health, financial, legal or other areas of need may call 860-567-4437 for more information or an appointment.
Brooker introduced "The Care Closet" in 2008. Families served at Brooker can get assistance with groceries, clothing, utility bills and other necessities in times of need. Donated items such as gift certificates or new clothing can be dropped off for The Care Closet or mailed to: Brooker Memorial, 157 Litchfield Street, Torrington, CT 06790. Making a cash donation is another way to help a family.
