The Northwest CT Healthy Eating and Active Living Initiative

The Fit Together mission statement is to “build the healthiest kids, families, and communities through sustainable strategies that foster healthy eating and active living.“  Formed in 2010, Fit Together is a collaboration of community organizations and individuals who want to create a healthier community where the healthy choice is the easy choice.

Brooker Memorial is a founding member and continues serving on committees to promote and develop Fit Together’s programs.  In 2016, Fit Together launched a new prevention program to defeat childhood obesity, called Families Fit Together- A Northwest CT Nutrition and Movement Program. The 7-week course for children and families ran over the summer for 9-15 year-olds and in the fall for children aged 6-9.  The weekly program  provides 3 components:  cooking/nutrition, exercise and addressing the social emotional factors that contribute to childhood obesity.
